History

On June 26, 1887, the First Presbyterian Church of Fort Bragg was established by the Reverend James S. McDonald. In 1888, the first sanctuary was built on the corner of Main and Pine Streets. We out grew our first sanctuary and in 1909 a new, larger church was constructed at the same location. On November 28, 1978, the church where this congregation worshiped for so long was consumed by fire and destroyed. The cause of the fire was never determined. Our congregation persevered and on our 100th anniversary in 1987, our new sanctuary was completed at 367 S. Sanderson Way where we continue to worship today. Also in 1987, Glenna Thomas compiled information on “The First Hundred Years” of the First Presbyterian Church of Fort Bragg.
